"Composition is all about the space on your paper, so this this is where we need to begin ! How do we use the space we have? Should we simplify the subject? Add or delete things? Move shapes around? How to deal with big empty shapes ? We will paint this gorgeous floral arrangement, but focusing on shapes in particular. There are many shapes in this subject ; big shapes, small shapes, busy shapes, empty shapes, discrete shapes and dominant shapes, soi t is a brillant subject to start understanding this essential aspect of composition. We’ll talk about how to know what shapes are needed, which are essential and how to know which shapes we can eliminate. This week we will also focus on transparency and freedom of brushwork to get feeling into our paintings."
