Today we are going to re-create a painting by Australian artist Robert Wade. The goal of this painting in how to paint light and shadows in a scene that makes the entire painting just be a story of mood and light, rather than places, people or objects. We will focus on suggesting shape. Creating abstract areas within the painting and choosing carefully which areas will be left figurative. To ensure we do not just copy tis scene, we will make 2 major changes to scene. The first to the light and the second to the subject in order to make this subject our own. This is not a subject, it is a story. How do you paint a story? A scene drenched in personality, memories, and emotions? Perhaps it is a family home? Perhaps it is a personal object? How to connect your background with your foreground? It happens, though rarely, that you find a subject where you have a great background and foreground and the middle ground barely exists! How to paint it? We will need to find a goal with this subject; will it be painting the mist? Painting the light? painting monochrome? Painting what??? This is the question. How to know what to painting when you just can't see what is best? This is one of the most important questions an artist has to ask themselves in front of every subject, so let's look at how you can feel more confident with your choices.

How to create the feeling of timeless tranquility in watercolour? In this course, we will focus on painting endless space and time. Creating a feeling that nothing changes. The light, the fog, the endless space put together to create an endless timeless landscape. Arthur Streeton (1867–1943) was an Australian landscape painter born in Mount Duneed, Victoria. He became a leading figure of the Heidelberg School, Australia’s key Impressionist movement. Streeton is known for luminous depictions of the Australian bush, notably the Hawkesbury River and Blue Mountains. His breakthrough came with his painting Still Glides the Stream (1890) which we will look at this Monday to understand why it led to a breakthough in his career. Streeton’s paintings were central to development and quality of Australian art. Although unknown outside of Australia, Streeton is a true Master and his paintings can easily fetch around $5,000,000 Australian dollars today. IMPORTANT : What Streeton learned that established him as a leading impressionist painter. ESSENTIAL : How you can apply Streeton’s understanding of colour and texture in your own paintings. PROFESSIONAL : What makes Arthur Streeton one of the best artists in Australian art and also in the global Impressionism movement.
